Harms of fruit in IBS

Can you eat too much fruit and how does it affect your health?

 our body?

We love fruit and it’s an “allowed” food, right? And it’s probably very good for

us? It’s true! However, as with anything else, there can be too much

very good things. Too much fruit can cause you the following

 problems:

Stomach pain, bloating and symptoms of bowel upset

In addition to glucose (sugar), fruits also contain fructose (also a sugar that

absorbed slightly differently in the body). It naturally exists in us

limited amount of the enzyme that breaks down fructose and although,

of course we are all different, many people have a limit to what they can do

 absorb comfortably.

A person who can feel this much more is someone with an imbalanced gut

flora or with SIBO (imbalanced growth of inappropriate species or

amount of flora in the upper part of the intestine – the small intestine), since each

insufficiently digested and absorbed fructose is attacked by bacteria.

Bacteria like to ferment sugars – creating gas as interesting

 product.

 Prevents weight loss

Or you may even experience weight gain. Of course, if you replace a package

fruit cookies, we would all agree that fruit is way better

choice. However, if you think you have a healthy diet, you are really trying,

but you just don’t lose weight, try cutting back and see what happens

will become. Often the effects can be very quick.

Why is this happening?

Apart from the obvious increase in glucose content, there is much speculation

and research on the effects of fructose on appetite and insulin. Big part

of the research is more about the health risks associated with

the consumption of free fructose, which is contained in HFCS

(high-fructose corn syrup used in the US in sodas and foods), and

very little research is done on natural fruits where fructose

it is often linked to glucose and together with fiber, forms a more complex sugar.

Preliminary research, however, suggests that fructose may have

stimulating effect on appetite hormones and energy storage which

perhaps it speaks to our body’s survival genes on a different level.

Strong desire for sweets

Some time ago, the fruit was only available in season. It is

once a year practically. If you have tried eating wild apples that are

been stored for several months, you will know that there is nothing attractive about it

 this.

Many types of fruit bear little resemblance to natural fruit, as each,

anyone who has ever picked wild berries knows. Our homegrown fruits in Bulgaria,

like apples, were considerably sweeter than they are now. Also

you may find yourself eating more and more but without feeling full.
